Privacy Policy
- MemoryPlaces never uploads your photos. It runs no photo service. Photos and videos leave your device only when you choose to share them yourself.
- No account. There is nothing to sign up for and no profile is created.
- No data collection. The App Store privacy label for MemoryPlaces is “Data Not Collected.”
- Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
1. Who we are
MemoryPlaces is made by Home M K Inc., a company registered in Ontario, Canada (“we,” “us”). If you have any question about this policy, email support@memoryplaces.app.
2. What MemoryPlaces does
You pick a photo, MemoryPlaces sets an area around the place it was taken, and it finds the other photos and videos in your library taken within that area. It then creates an album in Apple Photos containing them. Everything in that process — reading location metadata, matching, and creating the album — happens on your device.
Albums do not update on their own. When you return to a place and want to add newer photos or videos, you open the saved place in MemoryPlaces and tap Refresh.
3. Permissions we ask for
Photos
MemoryPlaces needs access to your photo library to read the location metadata stored in your photos and videos, to find matches, and to create or update albums in Apple Photos. Creating an album does not copy anything out of your library; the album simply references photos and videos that are already there. If you grant only Limited access, MemoryPlaces can only match the photos you selected, so results will be incomplete.
Location
Normally a place is defined by the location metadata inside the photo you pick, not by where you are. MemoryPlaces asks for your device’s location only if you choose Create album from current location. It then reads your location once, on your device, to set the centre of that album. Your location is not sent to any server we control.
4. Information we do not collect
- No account, email address, or profile is required or created.
- No photos, thumbnails, or location data leave your device to reach us.
- No advertising identifiers, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
- No third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
5. Data stored on your device
To do its job, MemoryPlaces keeps a small amount of information in its own storage on your device: your saved places (name, centre coordinate, radius, photo count, and when you last refreshed), your preferences, and your purchase status. This information stays in the app’s container on the device.
A sharing record. When you use Family or Share as a link, MemoryPlaces keeps a small file on your device that notes which of your photos and videos it has already added to a shared album (by their identifiers in your Photos library, not the photos themselves), which album each place uses, and Apple’s identifier for that shared album. This is how the next tap goes to the same album and offers only what is new. The file is not part of iCloud Sync or device backups, and it never leaves your device. Deleting a place removes its record; the list of items already added to your Family album is kept until you delete the app, so they are not added twice.
MemoryPlaces does not store the names, links or members of your shared albums. When Share as a link shows you a link, it comes from Apple and is shown once; MemoryPlaces does not save it.
When MemoryPlaces has to prepare copies for the share sheet (resized photos on iOS 26 or earlier, or a video you send with Share), it writes them to a temporary folder in the app and deletes them within minutes. On iOS 26 or earlier it also copies a suggested album name to the clipboard so you can paste it; a link is copied only when you tap Copy Link.
Saved places stay on the device where you made them unless you turn on iCloud Sync (part of Basic and Lifetime). With iCloud Sync on, your saved places — name, centre, radius, and photo count, not the photos themselves — sync between your devices through your own private iCloud database (CloudKit). Apple stores that data in your iCloud account; we cannot read it. You can turn iCloud Sync off in MemoryPlaces › Settings, and you can remove the data under iOS Settings › [Your Name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage.
6. Sharing an album
Sharing is always something you start, from an album you own. MemoryPlaces hands what you share to iOS, and it goes from your device to the destination you pick. It does not pass through us, and MemoryPlaces does not upload it anywhere.
Share. When you tap Share and pick photos, or send them all, MemoryPlaces hands them to your device’s share sheet — AirDrop, Messages, Mail, Save to Files, or any other destination you pick. Photos shared this way are the originals, including the location and other metadata stored in them — the same as sharing originals from the Photos app. If you would rather not send a photo’s location, share it from the Photos app with location turned off.
Family. When you tap Family, the place is added to an Apple Shared Album in your own iCloud, which Apple runs under its iCloud terms. On iOS 27 this goes through iOS’s own shared album screens: photos and videos are added in original resolution, with their location unless you turn Location off under Options on that screen. On iOS 26 or earlier it goes through the share sheet: MemoryPlaces prepares resized copies of the photos (2048 pixels on the long edge), and videos are not added. The people in the shared album can see what is in it. To confirm that what you added has arrived, MemoryPlaces reads the names and item counts of your shared albums from Photos on your device; it does not keep them.
Share as a link. This makes a new shared album in your iCloud and gives you its link. On iOS 27, anyone who has the link can view the album, download what is in it, and join to add their own items; they also see your name as the album’s owner, and the photos carry their location unless you turned it off. To stop, change who can access the album in Photos, or delete the shared album. On iOS 26 or earlier the link comes from the album’s Public Website setting in Photos; anyone with the link can view the album until you turn that setting off.
Albums you shared with an earlier version of MemoryPlaces (which used your own iCloud) no longer update. Those copies stay in your iCloud, under Apple’s iCloud terms, until you end the share: open the place and choose Stop Sharing in the menu. We never receive or see them.
7. Purchases
MemoryPlaces is free to download. Optional purchases (an annual subscription and a one-time lifetime purchase) are sold through Apple’s App Store and billed to your Apple Account. Apple processes the payment; we do not receive your card number or billing address. To unlock what you bought, the app checks the purchase record that Apple provides on your device. Apple’s handling of your purchase is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.
8. Diagnostics
MemoryPlaces does not include crash-reporting or diagnostics SDKs. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device’s Privacy & Security settings, Apple may share aggregated crash logs with us; these contain no photos, locations, or personal identifiers.
9. Data retention and deletion
- Deleting the MemoryPlaces app removes its saved places, preferences, and other app data from that device.
- Albums that MemoryPlaces created remain in Apple Photos until you delete them there. Deleting an album in Photos does not delete the photos themselves.
- Shared albums you made with Family or Share as a link remain in your iCloud until you delete them in Photos.
- Because we hold no personal data on any server, there is nothing further for us to delete on our side. If you have a question about your data, email us and we will answer it.
10. The website
memoryplaces.app is a static website. It does not set its own cookies and does not use analytics or advertising trackers. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes connection data such as your IP address in order to deliver and protect the site; see Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy. Links to the App Store take you to Apple, whose privacy policy applies there.
11. Children
MemoryPlaces is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as Canada’s PIPEDA, the EU/UK GDPR, or state privacy laws, including the right to access, correct, or delete personal information and to complain to a supervisory authority. Because MemoryPlaces does not collect personal information, we will normally respond to such a request by confirming that we hold no data about you. You can contact us at any time about this.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this address and update the effective date at the top. For material changes we will also note the change in the app’s release notes or on this page.
